What does home mean to you?
That is the question we’re posing to poets this year for our annual Poetry Stroll. We’re partnering with the United Way of Alamance County, along with our traditional partners, the Burlington Writers Club and Alamance Arts, to promote awareness of housing insecurity in Alamance County.
As in previous years, we want to hear from poets from all over Alamance County (and surrounding counties if you have ties to Alamance).
Deadline extended! Poetry and entry forms will be accepted from January 1 – February 28, 2026.
Poems must be:
- Original and unpublished;
- Around 20 lines long – it needs to fit on a 11×17 poster and be legible;
- Family-friendly – these poems hang in business windows, and are seen by people of all ages!
- Centered around what does home mean to you.
In late March, we will let you know where your poem will hang. The businesses agree to post the poems in their windows for the entire month of April. We also have a poet’s reception in early May, and the poems will hang at Alamance Arts until the end of May.
United Way links North Carolinians to the resources they need through NC 211, which is available by calling 211 or visiting the website.

We can’t wait to hear from you! Send the form below and your 1-2 poems to alamancewriters@gmail.com by February 28, 2026.
