Alamance County Public Libraries is proud to sponsor 21 Little Free Libraries throughout Alamance. The concept of Take a Book, Leave a Book began in 2009 in Wisconsin by a man who built one to honor his mother (https://littlefreelibrary.org/about/). There are now 50,000 Little Free Libraries all over the world.
In 2015, ACPL received a grant from Impact Alamance to purchase weatherproofed little libraries and install them across the county. The library couldn’t do this project alone though! We have partnered with a number of organizations that support the Little Libraries by providing upkeep and/or reporting any weather-related damage.
We believe that offering Little Free Libraries will help to impact more people by providing a place to exchange books and promote literacy in Alamance County.
The county has even more Little Free Libraries that aren’t sponsored by ACPL – see the entire map!
