Board and Card Games

We have board games from Battleship to Yahtzee, available to check out from your local branch today. These board games can be reserved ahead of time using your library card. Our collection has classics like Connect Four, Uno, and Operation, to the modern-day must-haves like Munchkin, Smallworld, and Throw Throw Burrito. Come pick them up at your local branch and keep the games for up to six weeks. We promise you’ll have maximum fun and enjoyment with something classic or something new.

This collection is not available to browse in person. To see our list of games and place holds on the games you’d like, visit our website at library.alamancecountync.gov, and choose Books & More/Library of Things from the blue menu on the side of the page. When you place the hold, choose which branch you’d like to pick the game up from, and we’ll contact you when it arrives.

Educational Kits

Blast off to Space Educational Resource Kit

Do you homeschool? Is your child obsessed with dinosaurs or science or Clifford the Red Dog? Do you want to supplement what your child is learning at school with educational resources to use at home?

If so, our educational kits are just what you need! We have kits for children of all ages and interests. The kits include books, puzzles, games, and tools that kids can use to learn about the subject. For instance, the Blast off to Space kit includes a telescope, a star finder, a red LED flashlight, and a solar system model.

Like our games, these kits are not available to browse in person. Visit our website at library.alamancecountync.gov, and choose Books & More/Library of Things from the blue menu on the side of the page. When you place the hold, choose which branch you’d like to pick the kit up from, and we’ll contact you when it arrives.

Video Games

Sometimes, it’s nice to try out a video game before buying it, or to borrow a game that you want to play but not purchase. The library has Switch, Playstation 5, and XBox 1 games to borrow.

These games can only be checked out on adult library cards, but the games available range from preschool games, like Bluey, to adult games, like Call of Duty. To see what games are available, visit our website at library.alamancecountync.gov, and choose Books & More/Library of Things from the blue menu on the side of the page. Place a hold, and we’ll send the game to your preferred library branch for pickup!

Other Items Available

We also have honor puzzles at each branch (no need to check out, just take them and return them when you’re done!), Books and Stories to Go (bags of 10 books, all on a theme, like trucks or colors, for preschool-early elementary school students), and EcoExplore backpacks (a backpack filled with items to help your child explore nature; there are several EcoExplore hot spots around the county).

Adrian Z. is the branch manager of Mebane Public Library.
