We’re Off to Find the Witch’s House by Mr. Krieb

On Halloween night, four trick-or-treaters go on a brave journey to find the witch’s house. Which house? The witch’s house. Join them as they come across classic monsters, such as skeletons, ghosts, and werewolves! This book oozes a nostalgic Halloween vibe with its warm, traditional art style and pages filled with fun costumes and decorations. I recommend this book for its easy-to-read, amusing story and creative look at Halloween monsters (who are really just kids in costumes).

Cover of Socksquatch. Creature with horns and one sock is walking with its arms raised across the cover.

Socksquatch by Frank W. Dormer

You’ve heard of monsters such as Dracula, but have you ever heard of the Socksquatch? Learn all about this not-so-scary monster during his hunt for… a sock! Meet familiar friends like Martin the Mummy and Frank… (enstein). This book is a cute little story filled with few words but full of funny, amusing pages. It is perfect for beginning readers or storytime tellers who want to add fun voices and sound effects. Got sock?

Cover of Gustavo The Shy Ghost. Pink cover, with Gustavo looking friendly, floating in a scene with skeletons, record player, fall decor, a violin, and more.

Gustavo, the Shy Ghost by Flavia Z. Drago

Gustavo is like any other little ghost or ghoul in his monster world. He loves playing music, has a crush on the prettiest monster, and wants to make friends! But there is only one problem. Gustavo is incredibly shy! Find out how he overcomes his fear of talking to all the other monsters! This is a very heartfelt story that showcases courage and promotes empathy through an experience many kids may find relatable. The book is worth to read for the art in itself, which features a cute and imaginative monster world designed after the Mexican holiday, el Día de los Muertos.

I Spy books are always a blast with their creative recreations of familiar places full of wacky and weird things! Spooky Night is perfect for getting in a frightful mood with its shadowy nighttime locations and strange clues. This is a book that will be hard to put down until you find all the items!

The Most Haunted House in America by Jarrett Dapier

Did you know that some historians consider the White House to be the most haunted house in America? Join the Skeleton Drummers in a jovial jamboree as they visit the White House to play for a special Halloween celebration! This book is filled with so many colorful costumed creatures and ghastly ghosts that it truly feels like a holiday party. It is great as a storytime tale with its fun sound effects and creatively detailed pages. You may even see someone like… Abe Lincoln!?
