Technology at the Libraries
ACPL is proud to offer the following technology for patrons to check-out and use at home.
Hotspots
For a 28 day check-out. We offer devices from two different mobile providers, if you don’t get service with one, try the other!
LaunchPads for All Ages
LaunchPads are educational tablets with pre-loaded themed content. Subjects are available for all ages. They do NOT require wi-fi or Internet to function. Great for travel or just anything you want your family to be able to play learn without worrying about what else they might be accessing online.
Chromebook Laptops
Chromebook Laptops are available for use inside our libraries. Want to sit at your own table or in one of our new comfortable seating options? Ask for a Chromebook at the desk! Not available at all library locations.
Desktop Computers with mouse & keyboard are also available at all physical library location.

- Headphones are available, sometimes only upon request at the Reference desk

Coursera
An online learning platform offering access to 10,000+ courses, Professional Certificates, and degree programs from top universities and companies worldwide. (Note: Degree programs require additional payment and are not included in this free access.)
Now through December 31, 2025, library cardholders can enjoy 90 days of free access to — brought to you by the State Library of North Carolina.
Whether you’re brushing up on job skills, exploring a new field, or diving into personal development, Coursera has something for you. To sign up, fill out the registration form from the State Library.

Once your registration is complete, you’ll be directed to the Coursera website to sign in or create an account. After signing in, you’ll be prompted to join the program.
What Happens After 90 Days?
- Your progress is saved—you won’t lose your work.
- If seats are still available, you can register again for another 90 days.
- Or, continue your learning by subscribing directly through Coursera.
If you are new to computers, haven’t used them for a while, are a little unsure and uncomfortable, or just need a bit of a refresher, Digitallearn.org has the tools to help you tackle technology at your own pace and gain the confidence you need to succeed. Topics include starting out, connecting with others, being safe online, job skills, being productive, mobile devices, and online shopping. Access these free resources anytime.

A computer configured for low vision persons can be requested at all physical library locations – see details here.
The Local History Room at the May Memorial Library offers both a digital microfilm/microform reader and a traditional microfilm reader.
